How I Live United
My name is Terry Sain.
I'm a family man , city councilman ,health, safety & environmental manager at LCY Elastomers and 2009-2010 United Way campaign chair. Today in our community, many people are finding it difficult to save for college, a home or retirement. Some families are struggling just to put food on the table and provide medical care for their young children and/or aging parents.
United Way gives me and others in the community an opportunity to participate in the annual fundraising campaign and various volunteer projects throughout the year. My wife, Judy, and I choose to give at the leadership level because we know these dollars stay right here in the areas of Baytown, Highlands and Chambers County.
When we give to United Way, we know it reaches those who need it the most. The feeling that comes from giving is difficult to describe, but I know that by helping families, senior adults and children in my community, I'm making it a better place to live...and that's good for everybody.
My name is Ruben Linares.
I am a volunteer for the 2009-2010 campaign. I have supported the United Way of Baytown Area for over 25 years through the ExxonMobil workplace campaign. As an active member of the community, I have served as a commissioner for the City of Baytown, as well as a board member of the Sterling Municipal Library, Bay Area Rehabilitation Center and Opportunity Center.
I was a coach of the cross-country team at Chinquapin High school in Highlands - a school for economically disadvantaged children from inner city Houston. I am currently a board member for the Bay Area Rehabilitation Center. If you've ever been a part of helping or supporting a child in need due to economic, environmental, physical or handicapped challenges, you would understand the need to volunteer.
There is no better feeling then knowing you're helping out someone in need. Think about your opportunities, your community and the influences you've had in life - how they shaped you, formed you and given you perspective. Then give back to those less fortunate. Make a difference in their life.
