The Lee College athletic department has teamed up with United Way of Baytown Area for a year-long food drive at all Lee College volleyball, basketball and tennis home games. Game attendees who bring non-perishable foods and canned goods will receive a free drink from the concessions. Food collected from the home games will help Baytown area food pantries to feed local families in need of assistance.
At every Lee College home game, a red grocery cart provided by Target will be on display for game attendees to drop off their food items. Several area grocers have joined efforts with Lee College and United Way to help with food donations, including H-E-B, Kroger, Target and Wal-Mart.
"Our athletes are excited about this food drive and about being a part of a cause that helps the less fortunate," said Lee College Athletic Director Roy Champagne. "Giving back to our community is an important part of teaching our athletes leadership, community service and advocacy. We hope folks will come out and enjoy the excitement of intercollegiate sports and help out our food drive efforts."
