A free-of-charge legal advice clinic is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. at Cleveland-Ripley Center, 720 Fairmont Parkway, in Pasadena.
Qualified applicants will be able to receive free legal advice from licensed Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program attorneys in areas that include title issues and property ownership, divorce, custody, guardianship, name changes, bankruptcy, landlord-tenant disputes, adoptions, wills and probate, power of attorney, consumer issues and government benefits.
Hurricane Ike recovery problems that may involve insurance and/or FEMA also may be discussed.
Anyone who has been served with legal documents, or who has prior court papers affecting their legal matter, should bring these documents on March 6.
Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program cannot provide legal advice regarding criminal matters, municipal matters or personal injury.
Only low-income residents are eligible for assistance; however in the majority of cases persons who come to the clinic typically have the opportunity at minimum to consult with an attorney. Referrals to legal service providers will be available.
For more information, or if a person needs legal advice but will be unable to attend the March 6 clinic, call Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program at 713-228-0735.
